A note from the wellness team at Medley Chiropractic Center, PC

Hello and Welcome to our office!

We would like to introduce you to our Chiropractic Physician, Dr John M. Medley DC, FAACP of the Medley Chiropractic Center, PC.  Dr Medley has been providing chiropractic services for the past 28 years to Carlsbad and the surrounding communities.  Dr. Medley is a proud local boy and was born and raised in Carlsbad.  He attended NMSU and worked in the potash industry prior to enrolling in chiropractic graduate school.  He is very family oriented and knew that upon completion of his chiropractic degree and internship that there was no other place on earth but Carlsbad, New Mexico that he would want to begin his health care practice. His grandparents were early ranchers in the area and his parents were anxiously waiting back home for his return.  Dr. Medley has been in this same location at 926 N. Canal Street since June 1981.

Dr. Medley earned his credentials in 1980 from Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon where he received his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree (DC).  He then went on to receive a Specialty Degree of Fellow to the American Academy of Chiropractic Physicians (FAACP) in Integrative Medicine from the College of Integrative Medicine in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2002.  There are only a small number of chiropractors in the United States who have earned this specialized degree.  Dr. Medley is a staunch believer in the importance of allopathic medicine and integrates his practice with the local medical community by incorporating the expertise of the local medical physicians.  When he deems it necessary he orders specialized tests such as MRI’s, CT scans, vascular studies, and lab work, just to mention a few.

Prior to graduation from chiropractic college, Dr. Darrell Atchley, DC of Lovington, New Mexico contacted Dr. Medley in Portland, Oregon and offered him an internship with his chiropractic office.  Dr. Atchley had heard of  Dr. Medley's training in Pettibon Spinal Biomechanics, which stresses the importance of analyzing and correcting spinal misalignments and associated musculature imbalances that are either genetically inherited or trauma induced.

In children, particular injuries can occur, even in earliest childhood.   Thus setting up the future adult for an array of spinal problems.  These adolescent injuries can and usually do result in early spinal degeneration of the intervertebral discs and nerves.  In adulthood, even minor injuries can disrupt the normal spinal musculature causing loss of normal lordotic curves or spinal curvatures.  Spinal symptoms may be immediate or may not show for a number of years following an injury.  The Spinal Biomechanics Technique that Dr. Medley specializes in strives to correct the biomechanical abnormal changes caused by the trauma. Spinal Biomechanics Technique believes that if the biomechanics are not addressed and merely spinal adjustments are administered the problems will persist for a lifetime.  One who has suffered these biomechanical changes after an injury will find that their symptoms of pain and discomfort will come and go throughout their lives, eventually leading to more severe problems such as; spinal nerve and bone degeneration and an array of neurological complications. Spinal Biomechanics stresses correction of these imbalances to permanently correct the abnormal mechanics causing the reoccurrence of spinal problems.  Stresses of everyday living can alter the spinal biomechanics resulting in pain and discomfort. Dr. Medley specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal spinal biomechanics and its correction. The radiographic x-ray analysis is specialized to reveal these abnormalities and allows for the exact measurement from what is normal. Once the evaluation is complete, periodic evaluation of a patients progress can be measured and compared to the original findings.  This assists Dr. Medley in determining a patient's objective progress to a precise degree, disregarding ever changing pain levels.  Pain is the last symptom to appear and the first to leave and is a poor indicator of a patient’s spinal recovery.
